Mesh Gutter Guards, What's the big HYPE?

Mesh Gutter Guards – Do they Actually Work?

Mesh gutter guards have become very popular in the last 10 years. They have quickly become a huge competitor to Reverse-curve guards that have been around for 40+ years. There are many mesh gutter protection systems that can fit pretty much anyone's budget. Most all offer free estimates.

Mesh gutter guards are constructed from a filtering element made from either type 304 or 316 surgical stainless steel or other metal and plastic type mesh. These filtering materials are generally attached to a support frame, usually made from plastic, sheet metal, or anodized aluminum. These type of gutter protection systems are designed to fit on top of gutter support brackets or slide just under the roof shingles. They tend to slide under the first shingle about 1 inches, not voiding your roofs warranty. Micro-mesh gutter guards have the smallest hole openings leading into a gutter, thus not allowing roof sand grit from roof shingles into your gutter. Along with those, they keep out any debris that could fall into your gutter, clogging it.

In the September 2010 and May 2011 results of numerous gutter guards tested by Consumer Reports Magazine, they favored the micro-mesh type because of the fine filtering attributes. Sample brand names include: Gutterglove, Mastershield, LeafFilter, and Rhino.
